Another patent application filed by Apple has emerged, describing how an NFC-enabled iPhone could unlock computers and other personal devices, as well as the physical locks of users’ homes, offices and automobiles.
The application, published Feb. 18 by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, offers perhaps the clearest view yet of some of the types of applications Apple has in mind for Near Field Communication if it decides to incorporate the technology in future versions of the iPhone.
Some of the illustrations accompanying the patent application display on the face of the iPhone the stylized “N-Mark” introduced by the NFC Forum trade group to designate devices and tags that comply with NFC standards.
