Sony has announced another NFC-enabled Android smartphone, the sola, as part of its Xperia series, one in which it introduces non-NFC-related “floating touch” technology.
In addition to floating touch, which enables users to navigate on the Web without actually touching the device by hovering their finger over the screen before they want to view a page, Sony is promoting NFC tag reading and device pairing in the new smartphone. The device is due out in the second quarter.
Although the device maker, a unit of Japan-based Sony Corp. and formerly part of the Sony Ericsson joint venture, is emphasizing the new floating touch feature of the sola, it is also promoting its “SmartTags” service for the model.
