NFC Times Exclusive – Sony Mobile has no plans to introduce its own payments service, choosing instead to work with local mobile payments service providers market by market, NFC Times has learned.
That is not so surprising, given the shrinking size of Sony’s smartphone business.
In the first local deal of its kind, Sony announced an agreement this week with Taiwan Mobile Payment Co., or TWMP, a mobile payments joint venture formed in 2014 by major banks and banking. Under the agreement, Sony will promote the banking group’s HCE-enabled t wallet + service to its more than 2 million Sony smartphone users with an HCE-capable NFC device.
