NFC TIMES Exclusive Insight – Two years after launch, Apple says Apple Pay users carried out hundreds of millions of transactions worth billions of dollars during the fourth quarter, Apple CEO Tim Cook told financial analysts Thursday, although Apple still doesn’t release actual transaction figures.
And as NFC Times reported earlier, Apple will launch Apple Pay in its 14th market, Taiwan. Apple acknowledged the launch Thursday. NFC Times first reported the planned launch last year, along with plans by Samsung to launch Samsung Pay on the island nation, as well.
Globally, the number of Apple Pay users more than tripled over the past year during Apple’s fiscal first quarter (calendar fourth quarter), as the iPhone maker continued the international expansion of its mobile payments service to Japan, Russia, New Zealand and Russia.
