NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Samsung today disclosed plans in a local forum to launch Samsung Pay in Taiwan next year with several banks and a closed-loop payments service, iPASS, which could be used for transit fare collection. The launch is expected around the first quarter.
The device maker didn’t specify an approximate date for the launch, but it will likely follow the launch of Apple Pay, which is widely expected by sources to come to Taiwan early next year.
Samsung has not officially announced the planned expansion to Taiwan of Samsung Pay, which is now live in nine markets, counting Russia, with two others, Malaysia and Thailand, planned for launch by the end of the year. Shu-ling Chiu, Samsung’s director of mobile payments for Taiwan, reportedly said today that Taiwan would be the 12th market for Samsung Pay.
