NFC Times Exclusive – More Chinese OEMs have launched support for NFC transit ticketing, following earlier launches by Xiaomi and Huawei, NFC Times has learned, with at least five more device makers enabling service in one to two Chinese cities, or planning to do so.
All of the launches involve closed-loop transit applications stored on embedded chips in the devices (see table below).
UPDATE: The OEMs that have launched support for NFC ticketing or plan to do so see the service as a way to make their devices more useful. NFC mobile payment with credit and debit cards has so far received a generally tepid response from Chinese consumers, who are more likely to pay for purchases with mobile wallets from messaging and ecommerce giants Tencent and Alipay, respectively. WeChat and Alipay wallets use QR codes to make physical world transactions, and transit authoriities began rolling out this technology in 2017. END UPDATE.
