NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Huawei and NXP Semiconductors have announced that the Chinese smartphone maker has added three cities to its transit-ticketing service from its Huawei Pay wallet, as Chinese OEMs continue to lead in enabling NFC fare collection from their devices.
Users of two of Huawei’s recent Honor smartphones who ride buses or subways in Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Beijing will be able to pay their fares by tapping their NFC-enabled Honor 8 or Honor V8 phones. That’s in addition to Shanghai, where Huawei launched transit ticketing in late August from its wallet. The wallet can support closed-loop transit cards from all four cities, along with credit and debit card payment from more than 20 Chinese banks. Users also can top up their transit card accounts from Huawei Pay.
Huawei is following another major Chinese OEM, Xiaomi, which has already launched transit ticketing in addition to bank payment from its Mi Pay wallet in six to seven Chinese cities or metro areas.
