NFC TIMES Exclusive Insight – KEB Hana Bank of South Korea and Taishin International Bank of Taiwan have demonstrated the transfer of bonus points and purchase of coupons using Blockchain technology, with KEB Hana Bank planning to launch initial service for visitors to the Winter Olympics next February in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Both banks are part of the Global Loyalty Network, or GLN, which is envisioned as a global membership points platform using blockchain. Hana Financial Group, of which KEB Hana Bank is a part, has been pushing the concept.
Hana and Taishin, the latter a member of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance, demonstrated the transfer of reward points and purchase of coupons during a “GLN Global Bonus Points Alliance” meeting last week in South Korea. A consumer in Taiwan could send points to a consumer in South Korea with the platform, for example, and the latter could spend them in South Korea. Banks and other parties in such countries as Japan, Singapore, France and Canada are reportedly participating in the alliance.
