NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Google has expanded its mobile payments service into a sixth market, Poland, targeting the country’s high penetration of contactless point-of-sale terminals. In-app payments will follow, according to the search giant.
Poland is also Google’s fifth international market, outside of the U.S., for Android Pay, all launched this year. But unlike its launch in Hong Kong last month, in which several major banks are backing the service, Android Pay managed to launch in Poland with only one major bank, Bank Zachodni WBK.
That is in addition to mid-tier Alior Bank and T-Mobile Banking Services, a payment service operated by T-Mobile as part of a tie-up with Alior, which issues debit cards for the T-Mobile banking customers.
