NFC Times Exclusive – Two more Polish banks plan to launch mobile payments using host card emulation technology, NFC Times has learned, adding to a growing list of mobile payments services in Poland, which saw the launch of its first “Pays” service last week with the introduction of Android Pay.
The two banks and Google are joining at least eight other mobile payments services involving banks that have launched since late 2012. (See table below.) Most, including Android Pay, use host card emulation, or HCE, but the multibank Blik service uses a technology based on one-time codes, which users enter into point-of-sale terminals.
Spokespersons for Millennium Bank and Alior Bank told NFC Times that the banks are planning to launch their own mobile payments services with HCE, likely before the end of the year. Both plan to enable payments with HCE from their mobile banking apps, not introduce a separate wallet app. UPDATE: Millennium launched its HCE-enabled service Wednesday. END UPDATE.
