NFC Times Exclusive: MasterCard Worldwide has moved forward with its deal with Samsung Electronics to enable its PayPass application on embedded chips in Samsung NFC phones, NFC Times has learned.
The deal is believed to be similar to one Visa Inc. announced with Samsung last February. The Visa agreement calls for preloading its payWave contactless application on embedded chips in the Samsung Galaxy S4 and some other Samsung NFC devices, but Visa has yet to launch a service with any issuer.
Meanwhile, MasterCard has lined up one of Australia’s big four banks, Commonwealth Bank, which as NFC Times reported earlier, announced plans in October to put MasterCard PayPass on embedded chips in Samsung phones by the end of the year. It will start with the Galaxy S4. NFC Times earlier had reported the planned agreement between MasterCard and Samsung to enable PayPass on the embedded chips, though not necessarily preloaded.
