NFC Times Exclusive – A source at LG Electronics has confirmed to NFC Times that the smartphone maker has decided to push back the launch of LG Pay from next week in order to focus on the launch of its next flagship phone, the G5. It’s possible the OEM will not launch until the second half of 2016.
LG was expected to announce its mobile payments service at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week, but is delaying that at least until the second quarter. The LG source also seemed to confirm that when it’s launched, LG Pay will not necessarily support NFC, like other “OEM Pay” services, but will instead use a physical card that can store multiple payment applications and communicate with the LG Pay app on LG phones.
Since LG’s original and rather vaguely worded announcement last November that it was planning its own payments service, the device maker has released no other details about the service or how it would work.
