NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Twelve months after launch, Samsung Pay is available in seven countries and eight total markets with users having made a combined 100 million or so transactions over the past year, but the tech giant is not disclosing its total number of users.
A Samsung spokeswoman told NFC Times that user numbers have grown “substantially” over the past six months. Samsung disclosed in an announcement in February to mark the six-month anniversary of its Samsung Pay launch that there were 5 million users in the U.S. and South Korea.
Samsung has since added China and four other countries, plus Puerto Rico. Even with a conservative estimate of an increase of 50% in the number of total Samsung Pay users, to 7.5 million, it would mean that each user had conducted 13 transactions in the course of a year, or about one a month.
