NFC Times Exclusive – Sweden-based Seamless Distribution told NFC Times it will use a proxy-card architecture, along with host card emulation, to enable NFC payments from its SEQR mobile wallet, a move the company hopes will help it greatly expand the acceptance network for its wallet.
At present, the wallet uses QR codes and funds transactions via users’ bank accounts to enable in-store payments. While merchants like not paying fees based on card interchange, Seamless has been unable to sign up enough of them to make the wallet take off with consumers.
“In order to have a payment app that should become ubiquitous everywhere, you need to have a large acceptance network, because otherwise, people will stop using it,” Peter Fredell, CEO of Seamless, told NFC Times.
