NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Following the initial soft launch of its NFC payments service in its home base, Sweden-based Seamless Distribution, the parent company of the SEQR wallet, is enabling HCE for all European users as it seeks global acceptance of its proprietary mobile payments service.
SEQR to date has mainly used QR codes and funds transactions through users' bank accounts to enable in-store payments. It has launched the QR code-based service in Sweden, Romania, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, the UK, Austria, Ireland, Malta, Luxembourg, Italy and the USA.
Starting last week, in all markets except the U.S. and Malta, SEQR users with NFC-enabled Android smartphones running Android 4.4 and above and the latest version of the mobile payment app will be able to pay with their smartphones by tapping at contactless terminals, Seamless said.
