NFC TIMES Exclusive – Samsung Pay is expected to launch next month in Taiwan, followed by Android Pay, as the two global “Pays” wallets gear up to compete with Apple Pay on the island nation, NFC Times has learned.
NFC Times earlier reported the timeline, and there is more confirmation with updates sent over the past few days by Samsung to flagship Galaxy handset owners in Taiwan supporting the Samsung Pay mobile payments app. The timing of the launch of Android Pay is less certain but it will probably be sometime in June, a source told NFC Times.
The Samsung Pay launch would be its 15th market globally, with Samsung hoping to siphon off some of the enthusiasm in the market for Apple Pay, which launched in late March in Taiwan and saw around 300,000 credit cards activated across seven banks participating in the launch the first day.
