NFC TIMES Exclusive – ČSOB, the Czech Republic’s No. 2 bank, faced challenges in launching the country’s first HCE-based wallet last year.
It wanted to be first in the market with the wallet, hoping to beat rival Komercní banka, or KB, part of France-based Société Générale, group. It also wanted to support both Visa- and Mastercard-branded cards at launch, a difficult proposition given that, at the time, the two schemes had significantly different specifications for cloud-based payments. And the bank was also working with three vendors from three other countries for its wallet server and app and HCE technology, which created hurdles for coordination.
