NFC TIMES Exclusive Insight – Eight U.S. states will soon allow residents to store a digital version of their driver’s license or state identification card in the Apple Wallet, the tech giant announced, noting that the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, will accept the digital ID at airport security checkpoints and lanes.
The move is part of Apple’s long-term strategy to increase the functionality of its Wallet and NFC-enabled Apple Pay service. Apple announced Apple Pay seven years ago this month for retail payments and has since moved into transit fare payments, unlocking cars, student ID and soon will enable customers to use their iPhones and Apple Watches as keys to enter their houses, apartment and hotel rooms and also as corporate badges.
