Despite the buzz around host-card emulation, or HCE, which allows for payment and other NFC applications on contactless card terminals without the need for secure elements, expect plenty of embedded secure elements and NFC SIMs to be shipped in 2014.
With Google’s announcement of its support for host-card emulation in its latest Android operating system, some observers were predicting a not-so-protracted demise for the TSM and secure element business units of major NFC vendors.
