Large Spanish retail bank, La Caixa, plans to begin distributing 200,000 contactless stickers this month, deciding not to wait for NFC commercial launches to start its mobile-payment rollout.
The Barcelona-based savings bank, which was involved in the high-profile NFC trial in Sitges, outside of Barcelona, in 2010, plans to issue its “TAP Visa” stickers unsolicited to its heaviest mobile banking and contactless card users in Barcelona, a spokeswoman told NFC Times.
The bank has issued more than 1.1 million contactless cards since January and has more than 2.8 million mobile-banking customers.
