The maker of rugged mobile phones for plumbers, builders, rescue crews and other workers often dealing with adverse conditions is planning to introduce an NFC model by the second quarter, NFC Times has learned.
The new phone, planned by U.S.-based Sonim Technologies, would be welcomed by companies that use Near Field Communication to manage home-health care workers, security guards, roving cleaning crews and other remote workers. These workers tap the phones against RFID tags at checkpoints to register attendance and automatically open communication with the home office.
“In the interim, it’s a very important phone for the market,” Les Wright, head of the UK channel for Finland-based Reslink Solutions, told NFC Times. “It’s ruggedized; it’s one of those phones that we could place into any sector.”
I wonder if it has Single Wire Protocol? As a "rugged" phone, it might be targeting the fleet / logistics / NEDAP sort of market, and not include SWP. Any thoughts?
This phone resumes work up 30 minutes under the water! That is something I couldn`t imagine few years ago. Is there any news about depth on which this phone could be used?
The reality is that there is a very limited choice of devices on the market at the moment, and many of those are only available in sample quantities for development work and trials. As far as I know from the article found by shared files SE there is quite an impressive list of devices which are intended for the mass market, among them Nokia, Android 2.3, Toshiba TG01 and others. well, we'll wait and see.
