NFC Times Exclusive – Major point-of sale-terminal vendors say that their most recently deployed terminals and perhaps others will be ready to accept loyalty cards from Apple’s Wallet when the nonpayment application launches with iOS 9 this fall.
Verifone announced earlier this month that its MX 915 and MX 925 terminals would enable users to collect and redeem rewards, in addition to accepting payment from Apple Pay. And Greg Burch, U.S.-based vice president of mobile, business development, and ISV partnerships at Ingenico told NFC Times that nearly all of its terminals deployed over the last three years would be able to accept loyalty cards stored in Apple’s newly renamed Wallet, although some will require a software update.
Both large POS terminal vendors have been seeking to gain a boost from Apple’s announcement earlier this month that it will expand to retail loyalty cards from only credit, debit and prepaid cards issued by financial institutions.
