NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Intesa Sanpaolo, Italy's largest retail bank, launched its HCE-enabled mobile wallet service in a fifth market, Serbia, in October through its local subsidiary Banca Intesa Beograd and claimed a country first by deploying an HCE-based payments service branded as Wave2Pay.
Intesa Sanpaolo's mobile payment service is a standalone wallet app and is available to all Banca Intesa Visa debit cardholders who have NFC-enabled smartphones running Android OS version 4.4 or later. The bank has no plans to support Windows 10 smartphones.
Wave2Pay is also the name for the HCE mobile wallets that other Intesa Sanpaolo group subsidiaries have launched in Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia, before Banca Intesa Beograd announced the service in Serbia. Intesa Sanpaolo has also launched a mobile payments feature in its mobile-banking app in its home market of Italy, which it calls PayGo.
