NFC TIMES Exclusive Insight – Following Apple’s imminent entry into the credit card business in the U.S. with its planned Apple Card, the tech giant is showing signs it is looking to roll out the branded credit card in a number of other countries, as well.
Trademark filings in Canada, the European Union and parts of Asia came to light this week, showing that Apple wants to protect its brands and logos for both Apple Pay and Apple Cash for possible rollouts in these countries or regions–although it hasn’t yet announced plans to do so. Apple would almost certainly need to find new issuing partners in most of the new countries for Apple Card.
Apple has yet to actually launch the Apple Card credit card in its first market, the U.S., with issuing partner, Wall Street-based Goldman Sachs. Apple announced plans for the new card in March. The launch is expected any day now, with iOS 12.4 released this week supporting Apple Card. There will also be a physical Apple Card.
