NFC TIMES Exclusive Insight – While contactless payments in the U.S. is “expected to accelerate in the near future,” merchants and issuers must improve the “POS experience” for consumers, the U.S. Payments Forum, a payments industry trade group, said today.
The forum is concerned that a “fragmented POS experience” could create confusion and inconvenience for consumers and end up hindering the growth of contactless payments in the U.S., which now lags well behind contactless take-up in many other developed markets.
The Payments Forum, originally formed to promote the EMV card rollout in the U.S. and affiliated with the Secure Technology Alliance, released a white paper today titled, “Consumer Experience at the Contactless Point of Sale.” The report seeks to advise merchants, issuers, terminal vendors and other payments providers on ways to improve the user experience for in-store contactless payments.
