NFC TIMES Exclusive Insight – With U.S. banks planning to renew tens of millions of their EMV credit and debit cards this year with an added contactless interface, industry observers are naturally considering how the rollouts will affect adoption of NFC mobile wallets.
The latest to weigh in on this question–again–is U.S.-based Auriemma Consulting Group. Auriemma said it couldn’t say whether contactless cards would help or hurt adoption of such NFC mobile payments services as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. It released its new assessment Tuesday.
That follows a report from the Payment Strategies Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, released last month, which reached a similar conclusion, after posing the question, “will contactless cards pave the way for NFC mobile payments in the U.S.?”
