NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Broadcom made only passing reference to NFC during a conference call Thursday to discuss the company’s fourth quarter and full-year earnings, although CEO Scott McGregor listed NFC as one of the technologies expected to help lead to growth in the company’s high-end connectivity business.
The connectivity business includes Broadcom’s much larger market share in Wi-Fi and other wireless technologies in smartphones and other devices, such as tablets, laptops and set-top boxes. McGregor also told investors and analysts during the call that he expected the market to grow for wearable devices and other “Internet of Things” applications, such as home appliances and automotive, later in 2015.
“We’ve got opportunities for new technologies and things like NFC, things like wireless charging. I think those are opportunities for us, towards the latter part of this year, getting some growth there,” McGregor said during the conference call. He added that a growing market share in NFC, wireless charging, and other connectivity technologies, “will be able to contribute meaningfully going forward.”
