Report: Google and PayPal Challenge UK Joint Venture Plans

Trial only involved employees of Turkcell and Garanti Bank. They could tap the phones to pay on the same contactless readers accepting contactless cards in Turkey.

NFC Times Take: 

One of the trials backed by the GSM Association under its Pay-Buy Mobile initiative, which is intended to promote the role of the SIM—and therefore the mobile operator—in the NFC ecosystem. Garanti Bank has been active in contactless payment with cards and also stickers customers can attach to their handsets—thus bypassing operators.
