New Zealand: Airline Uses Stickers To Speed Boarding

Part of an NZ$30 million (US$22.1 million) overhaul of the domestic airport check-in and boarding process, Air New Zealand distributed 100,000 of its “ePass” stickers to frequent flyers in announcing the improved check-in and boarding processes, which also include 2D barcode technology, according to sticker supplier On Track Innovations. Passengers could attach the stickers to the back of their mobile phones or other devices. They could tap the sticker at check-in kiosks or at the gate and use the sticker as a kind of electronic boarding pass, said the airline. The passengers would also have to show ID.
Japanese airlines have used contactless mobile phones to speed the check-in and boarding process for years and interest is growing elsewhere, including by Air France and reservation system provider Amadeus.
