The trial was one of nearly a dozen Pay-Buy Mobile projects encouraged by the GSM Association, which represents mobile operators. As such, Nokia modified its NFC trial workhorse, the 6131, to run the payment application on the SIM. In nearly all other trials using the 6131, the application runs on an embedded secure chip.
NFC Times Take:
It’s hard to imagine Smart Communications, a pioneer in SMS-based mobile money transfers and payment, rolling out NFC in a big way. And in any case, few merchants accept contactless payment in the Philippines.
