Organizers, led by the city and Finland’s quasi-governmental VTT Technical Research Center, held a series of separate trials during in late 2007 and 2008, part of the SmartTouch program, which organizers have billed as the “largest effort on piloting NFC technology in the European Union.
NFC Times Take:
The city of Oulu, about 200 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle, sees itself as a pioneer in the delivery of services to citizens using high technology. It has been testing NFC for about four years and has been the site of trials with participants ranging in age from 6 to more than 80.
