Visa returned to Malaysia, one of the first places it introduced Visa contactless cards, for its first NFC trial for its renamed contactless application payWave. The same parties, along with transit card operator Touch 'n Go, would launch what they called a commercial launch of NFC in Malaysia two years later. That project, however, put only about 3,000 units of a single model of Nokia NFC phone on sale to the public.
NFC Times Take:
The “rollout” of NFC services in Malaysia in April 2009 that stemmed from this trial has yet to take the country by storm.
* Trusted Service Manager: Defined loosely to include companies or other organizations securely distributing, provisioning and managing applications, generally over the air, on secure elements in NFC mobile phones; or licensing their platforms for this purpose.
