The six-month trial has an interesting twist, enabling users to download a Visa-branded prepaid card account by tapping their phones on smart posters in Kuwait’s The Avenues mall. That is in addition to requesting the download of a credit card account cobranded by the National Bank of Kuwait and telco Zain with Visa. Consumers can then choose to pay with either the credit or prepaid accounts at the point of sale, using a menu on the phone. They can also tap the RFID chip-embedded posters to download mobile coupons, which they would later redeem at one or more of the 100 merchants participating in the trial at the mall.
Downloads of free Visa prepaid cards by tapping smart posters could give new meaning to the concept of instant issuing.
