Orange held a quiet transit-ticketing test using a prototype NFC phone as well as one with a SIM card featuring both contact and contactless interfaces supplied by German card vendor Giesecke & Devrient. The SIM came with its own antenna, embedded in a separate card that fits into another specially-outfitted slot.
NFC Times Take:
Orange competitor Bouygues also held a test with Paris-area transit operators. The early tests preceded committees the French operators have set up to coordinate possible rollouts of NFC.
