One of the GSM Association Pay-Buy Mobile projects, the application was preloaded on the SIM and would have supported an early version of the single-wire protocol that connects the SIM cards storing the Visa contactless app with the NFC chip in the phones. E-couponing application also was to be available on the phones.
NFC Times Take:
Taiwan’s No. 3 mobile operator, Far EasTone, had hoped to roll out the technology in 2008, with over-the-air downloading of applications. As with other telcos in Taiwan, FET had to tone down its enthusiasm given the immature state of the NFC ecosystem in 2008 and 2009.
* Trusted Service Manager: Defined loosely to include companies or other organizations securely distributing, provisioning and managing applications, generally over the air, on secure elements in NFC mobile phones; or licensing their platforms for this purpose.
N/A: Not available or not applicable.
