U.S.-based Sequent Software hopes the addition of two NFC industry veterans, including a former NFC expert at Microsoft, will help it compete for trusted service management contracts with the top three global smart card vendors.
Sequent announced recently that it had hired Miller Abel, former NFC and mobile-payment standards architect at Microsoft, along with former NFC Forum executive director Paula Berger.
The Silicon Valley-based startup is going up against the world’s three largest smart card vendors, Gemalto, Oberthur Technologies and Giesecke & Devrient, which are already notching contracts with their TSM units, helped by their relationships with big mobile operators and banks. The vendors already supply the telcos and financial institutions with SIM and banking cards, along with card personalization and SIM over-the-air platforms.
