Colombian processor and acquirer Redeban Multicolor plans to launch an NFC trial early next year with one or two banks and the country’s largest mobile operator, Comcel, NFC Times has learned.
Valentín Echeverry, vice president for technology and operations for Redeban, the MasterCard merchant acquirer and processor in Colombia, told NFC Times that plans call for the NFC project to launch in the first quarter of 2011 in Bogota, the capital.
Among banks expected to participate is Banco AV Villas, he said. One or more banks also plan to issue contactless cards by next year. The cards and NFC phone application would support PayPass from MasterCard. Redeban also issues MasterCard-branded cards on behalf of Colombian banks.
