The NFC Forum has announced the formation of five special interest groups, which will promote NFC rollouts in payment, retail, transport, health care, and consumer electronics.
In each of these markets, the groups will push for a transition from development of NFC standards to rollouts of the technology. It marks a shift in focus for the forum, which has spent the past several years developing standards and a certification program for NFC but has been light on its market outreach.
These markets are “five areas that we felt were furthest along, and where we could help the most,” said NFC Forum director Debbie Arnold, during Webcasts Thursday to introduce the initiative. While pushing for implementation, “we’re also setting ourselves up to come up with additional markets that we want to target,” she said. She spoke along with representatives from the various industry segments.
