NFC Times Exclusive Insight - All stations on Moscow’s new commuter rail line, the Moscow Central Circle, or MCC, and some Moscow Metro stations linked with the new line, accept open-loop payments, including with Apple Pay, the Russian transit authority confirmed to NFC Times, adding that the authority is looking forward to accepting a range of other NFC-enabled wallets, including Samsung Pay.
The spokeswoman declined to say when Samsung Pay users could begin paying their fares and tickets, but technically, they could use the service already to cover fares at gates, ticket offices and ticket machines since, like Apple Pay and some SIM-based NFC wallets, Samsung’s wallet stores open-loop credit and debit cards.
Samsung Pay launched in Russia in late October, supported by five Russian banks and one payments scheme, Mastercard. Since then, Samsung Pay gained support from two more banks and another payment scheme, Visa.
