NFC TIMES Exclusive – The 76th Annual Golden Globes held Sunday featured the usual share of Hollywood celebrities preening for the cameras, showing off their new designer gowns and latest nips and tucks, while holding their trophies high if they won.
And this year, the trophies themselves got a makeover, becoming taller, heavier and layered with more gold plating. They also got an embedded dual-interface chip to ensure their authenticity. And to prevent the the names of the winners from leaking out before the ceremony, the chips were “provisioned” with the winners names, award categories and other data backstage just after being announced, using technology very similar to that used to provision payments applications on watches and other wearable devices, the head of UK-based Digiseq told NFC Times.
Digiseq is known mainly for its technology that can provision and personalize tokenized contactless credit and debit cards on passive wearable devices in the field. The devices include analog watches, wristbands and key fobs that do not sport batteries to power NFC controllers or Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connections.
