A branch of Chinese telco China Mobile has signed an agreement to introduce a contactless SIM-based city card that includes a payment feature, but not apparently using RF-SIM technology, in the provincial capital city of Hangzhou in June.
The mobile-wallet applications will enable users to tap their phones to ride buses and taxis, pay parking fares and make some food and beverage purchases, as well as buying movie and lottery tickets, reportedly. Users reportedly will be able to reload the transit-payment purse over the air. A second phase would enable subscribers to use their phones to rent bicycles and pay bills.
The telco is offering the service reportedly with the city of Hangzhou and its provider of city cards or passes to citizens of the city, which is located about 200 kilometers southwest of Shanghai in Zhejiang province.
