NFC TIMES Exclusive Insight – GVB, Amsterdam’s largest public transit operator, says it seeks to replace an aging closed-loop fare card system and go to open-loop and other digital tokens with the planned rollout of its new account-based ticketing system.
By moving to open loop and also bar-code mobile tickets and other digital tokens, GVB is hoping to increase customer convenience and lower costs for selling tickets, according to Inge Keur, head of customer service and ticketing for GVB, speaking at a recent Transport Ticketing Digital conference session.
She said the agency, which runs the Dutch city’s metro, trams and buses, is planning to phase out acceptance of the national Mifare-based closed-loop OV-chipkaart, or chip card, along with paper tickets.
