NFC Times Exclusive Insight – ANZ New Zealand has made good on its pledge to commercially launch host card emulation-based payments from its mobile-banking app, goMoney, before the end of this year, planning to begin enabling customers with eligible Android phones to tap to pay starting tomorrow, but only with Visa-branded credit or debit cards, for now.
The bank had announced the plans in March. At the time, it represented a snub to a telco-led joint venture Semble, which launched its long-anticipated SIM-based mobile wallet the same month. The head of digital channels and transformation at the bank, Liz Maguire, reportedly described the start of service tomorrow as a soft launch, however.
ANZ New Zealand said in a statement today that the “key benefit” of its goMoney Wallet would be that it is “within ANZ’s trusted mobile banking app…removing the need for a separate app or SIM card upgrade.”
