Norway: Largest Telco and Bank Plan NFC Payment Launch
Norway,
Norway’s largest telco and its biggest bank plan to launch NFC payment and the Valyou wallet commercially by the end of the year after a soft launch in the summer. DNB will issue a Visa payWave debit application that will be stored on Telenor's NFC SIM cards. Consumers will be able to make payments with their NFC phones of up to NOK175 (US$30.43) without entering a PIN code.
NFC Times Take:
The launch follows small NFC trials the telco and bank held in 2009 and 2011. The parties face challenges, including the lack of active contactless terminals at present and finding compelling uses for the planned Valyou wallet.
* Trusted Service Manager: Defined loosely to include companies or other organizations securely distributing, provisioning and managing applications, generally over the air, on secure elements in NFC mobile phones; or licensing their platforms for this purpose.
