Italy: Tapping To Spend Points At Outlet Stores
Serravalle, Pocapaglia, Alba and two other cities, Italy
Scope:
Trial
Status:
In progress
The three-month trial is designed to test a loyalty application for a clothing retailer in its outlet stores. Users earn points with purchases and reward vouchers get sent to their SIMs via text messaging. The subscribers can then tap the phones to automatically redeem the points at the point-of-sale terminals.
NFC Times Take:
The trial and others planned by TIM, including a follow-up pilot with Milan’s transit authority, Azienda Trasporti Milanesi, planned for December, shows TIM is finally over its ill-conceived plan to put another wireless technology in its SIMs, ZigBee rather than NFC for mobile commerce.
* Trusted Service Manager: Defined loosely to include companies or other organizations securely distributing, provisioning and managing applications, generally over the air, on secure elements in NFC mobile phones; or licensing their platforms for this purpose.
N/A: Not available or not applicable.
