Trial organizers distributed phones to merchants and media at the Australian Masters golf tournament MasterCard sponsored. Users could pay for refreshments and souvenirs with merchants at the venue.

NFC Times Take: 

The first NFC trial in Australia, this one was a small affair, with four dozen promotional phones handed out for free. But it did allow MasterCard and Commonwealth Bank to beat out competitors Visa and National Australia Bank in holding the country’s first NFC trial.
