NFC Times Exclusive Insight – Samsung Electronics today released exact dates for when it plans to launch its mobile-payments service, Samsung Pay–Aug. 20 in South Korea and the U.S. on Sept. 28–while saying it also intends to roll out the service in the UK, Spain and China.
In addition, Samsung has agreed to sign up for the Visa Digital Enablement Program, or VDEP, which could streamline the recruitment of issuers for its Samsung Pay wallet–if the issuers agree to use Visa’s tokenization service. Samsung follows Google, which was the first wallet provider to sign up for VDEP, in May, for use with its forthcoming Android Pay wallet.
Samsung announced the Samsung Pay launch dates today in New York, where it unveiled its latest flagship phablets, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. The new devices will come preloaded with Samsung Pay, while users will need to download Samsung Pay software for the device maker’s flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, released earlier this year.
